Before you ride

Policies

The fine print, in plain language. Everything you need to know about booking, cancelling, safety, and how we handle your information.

01

Cancellation Policy

In short: cancel or reschedule free of charge up to two weeks before your expedition. Within two weeks, bookings are non-refundable. If we reschedule for unsafe weather, you move to a new date at no extra cost.

Cancelling or rescheduling

Cancellations or reschedules are allowed up to two (2) weeks (14 days) before your scheduled expedition. Within two weeks of your scheduled expedition, bookings are non-refundable.

To cancel or reschedule, contact us by phone at (858) 358-2234 or by email at booking@highdesertexpeditions.com. Approved refunds are returned to the original payment method [confirm refund method and processing time].

Late arrivals and no-shows

Expeditions depart promptly as scheduled. Please arrive 10–15 minutes early for check-in, waiver confirmation, and a brief safety overview. Late arrivals may result in a shortened ride, as other guests are often scheduled after you. Shortened rides due to late arrival are not refunded. Guests who do not show up are treated as a cancellation within two weeks and are non-refundable [confirm].

Weather and unsafe conditions

Expeditions are conducted in typical high desert conditions, which may include wind, dust, heat, cold temperatures, and variable terrain. By booking, guests acknowledge and accept these natural environmental factors.

For safety, High Desert Expeditions reserves the right to reschedule expeditions in the event of unsafe conditions, including extreme heat, high winds, lightning, storm activity, flash flood risk, unsafe trail conditions, or any other safety concern. If an expedition is rescheduled for these reasons, it will be moved to a new date at no additional cost.

Refunds are not issued due to weather, as conditions are outside of our control. A reschedule option will always be provided.

Normal desert conditions — such as light wind, dust, typical seasonal temperatures, or light precipitation — do not qualify for cancellation.

If HDE needs to cancel

If we must cancel for reasons within our control (for example, a vehicle or guide issue), you may choose a new date or a full refund [confirm].

This policy is also included in the waiver signed at the time of booking.

02

Waiver Information

In short: every guest signs a liability waiver before riding. You'll sign it when you book and confirm it at check-in.

Who needs to sign

Every guest riding in the RZR must have a signed waiver on file before the expedition begins. Guests under 18 must have the waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian [confirm minimum age for riders, and whether minors are allowed].

When and how

The waiver is signed at the time of booking. At check-in, our team will confirm that every guest in your group has a signed waiver. If someone in your group has not signed yet, they can do so on-site before departure — please allow extra time.

[Add link to the online waiver form here — e.g. “Sign the waiver online”]

What the waiver covers

Off-road travel involves inherent risks. The waiver explains these risks and asks you to acknowledge them, including:

  • Uneven, rocky, and variable desert terrain, and the movement of an off-road vehicle over it.
  • Natural conditions such as heat, cold, wind, dust, and sun exposure.
  • Following the guide's safety instructions, wearing provided safety equipment, and remaining seated with restraints fastened while the vehicle is moving.
  • Our cancellation and weather policy described above.

Riding safely

Before every expedition, guests are introduced to the vehicle and relevant safety equipment. HDE performs a 40-point vehicle inspection before each tour and carries equipment and backups for potential issues. Our guide may adjust pace or route — or end an expedition — if conditions or guest behavior create a safety risk. Guests who appear to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not be permitted to ride.

If you are pregnant, or have a back, neck, heart, or other condition that could be affected by a bumpy off-road ride, please consult your physician before booking and let us know in advance.

Terms & Conditions

Effective date: [date of publishing]

By using this website or booking an expedition with High Desert Expeditions, you agree to these terms.

Bookings and pricing

Expeditions are priced per RZR, not per person. Each RZR accommodates up to three (3) guests. Current experiences are Desert by Day (2 hours, $375 per RZR) and Sunset Ride (3 hours, $475 per RZR), each available on the Pandora Trail or Cathedral of Stone. Prices and availability may change; the price shown when you book is the price you pay. Payment is due at the time of booking [confirm: full payment or deposit].

Cancellations and weather

Cancellations, reschedules, late arrivals, and weather are governed by our Cancellation Policy.

Waiver and conduct

All guests must sign our liability waiver before riding. Guests must follow the guide's safety instructions at all times. Ivan drives every expedition — guests do not operate the vehicle. We may refuse or end an expedition, without refund, for any guest whose behavior puts themselves, others, or the vehicle at risk, including guests under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The experience

Expeditions can be adapted to your group, but route, pace, intensity, and stops are always at the guide's discretion based on terrain, conditions, and safety. Views, wildlife, sunsets, and night-sky visibility vary with weather, season, and moon phase and are not guaranteed.

Personal belongings

Secure storage is limited. HDE is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal items, including items affected by dust or movement during the ride.

Photos and video

We may take photos or video during expeditions and use them on our website and social media. If you prefer not to appear, just let your guide know [confirm].

Website content

All text, photos, logos, and design on this website belong to High Desert Expeditions or are used with permission and may not be copied without our written consent. We work to keep information accurate but do not guarantee the website is error-free.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, HDE's liability for any claim related to a booking is limited to the amount paid for that booking. Additional terms regarding risk and liability are set out in the waiver.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California. Any dispute will be handled in the courts of San Diego County, California.

05

Accessibility

Our website

We want everyone to be able to explore and book with HDE. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, and we continue to improve the site over time. If you have trouble using any part of this website, please contact us and we'll help you book by phone.

The expedition

An off-road expedition involves climbing into and out of an RZR, sitting upright with restraints, and riding over rough, uneven terrain for 2 to 3 hours. If you or someone in your group has a mobility, medical, or other need, please call us before booking. We'll talk it through honestly and do what we safely can to make the experience work for you.
